Can I drive other cars?
Young Lady Driver Car Insurance allows policy holders to drive other cars subject to the insurers' rules.

From November 2007 policy holders must be over 25. Previously this was 23 and existing policy holders should check their policy detail.

The Young Lady Driver policy will provide third party cover when you drive someone else's car with their permission.
What's "NCD" (No Claims Discount also known as No Claims Bonus NCB)
For every year of claim free driving you will earn a discount towards the cost of your next year's insurance, this is known as a "No Claims Discount".

It's the effect of NCD that keeps premiums low for experienced drivers.

Many drivers taking Motor Insurance For Young Lady drivers are first-timers and don't have NCD. To help keep costs down, Young Lady Driver Car Insurance offers a 6 month policy option with a 25% NCD on renewal. This is an excellent deal for new drivers.

NCDs can be lost if there's a claim on the policy but with Young Lady Driver policies your NCD is not affected if you claim for a windscreen provided you have Comprehensive cover and any replacement is carried out by our approved replacement service.
What is Compulsory Excess
An excess is the amount you must pay in the event of a claim under your policy regardless of who is at fault.

It's normal for insurance policies have these "excesses" built in and they have the effect of reducing your total premium.

These are compulsory excesses and they may vary according to the period of your insurance, please check your policy document.

Compulsory Excesses:

Windscreen Claims - all drivers:
Windscreen replacement £60.00
Windscreen repair £0.00
Fire and theft £100.00

All other Claims:
Fire, theft and all Damage £100.00

Young or inexperienced drivers:
Under 21 years £250.00
21 to 24 years £100.00
25 years and over but with less than 12 months full licence £100.00
What is Voluntary Excess
Whilst a compulsory excess automatically applies to your policy, you can choose to include a voluntary excess as an additional feature.

If you do this you will, in the event of a claim, have to make an additional contribution to the costs of repair or replacement.

However, voluntary excesses also have the effect of lowering your annual premium costs and so are worth considering because you will only pay an excess if you make a claim on your policy.

These excesses only apply to comprehensive policies and a voluntary excess can be up to £250.

For Comprehensive policies if you make a claim you must add the stated compulsory and voluntary excesses together to work out the total amount you must pay in the event of any claim made.

What's an Uninsured Loss? And how can I recover it?
When there's a need to claim on a motor policy there are always costs that the policy can't cover but which you may want to claim back from the other party.

In this situation, you will probably need legal assistance to recover money you've either spent or not earned all because of someone else's actions.

  • Repair costs if your own policy doesn't cover you
  • The excess payable under your Comprehensive Insurance Policy
  • Costs of a replacement vehicle while yours is being repaired
  • Compensation for injury or death
  • Compensation for damage to clothes, luggage or personal belongings
  • Medical fees / Loss of earnings / Loss of Use / Out of pocket expenses

How soon can I start my insurance?
For legal reasons insurance cover cannot be backdated so the earliest you can get cover is immediately after you've paid for it.

You are not legally covered to drive on the road until we have advised you that the cover note is raised and your insurance is fully accepted.

For policies purchased on Friday evening we will endeavour to raise cover notes and advise you by 12 noon on Monday. For policies purchased on Saturdays and Sundays we will endeavour to raise cover notes and advise you by 5pm Monday.
What is a "Q" plate vehicle?
Q Plate is a vehicle registration mark that starts with a 'Q', indicating that the vehicle was either not originally registered in the UK and proof of age was unavailable at registration; or that it is a vehicle that has been built using a significant proportion of used parts.

Kit cars usually have a Q registration and Q plates can sometimes be used to disguise stolen or 'rung' vehicles.

Young Lady Driver does not insure Q plate vehicles.
What is a "Grey Import"?
A grey import is a vehicle designed and built for sale outside the EU, and imported into the UK. Because such a vehicle was not originally intended for sale here, it may not be manufactured to European specifications and may not have undergone European Type Approval. Grey imports are typically much cheaper to buy than type approved vehicles but owners sometimes have difficulty getting them serviced and/or repaired by reputable workshops. The correct spare parts can sometimes be difficult to acquire.

Young Lady Driver does not insure grey imports.
What is Pass Plus
Pass Plus is a scheme run in the United Kingdom aimed at young drivers who have just passed the standard driving test. The scheme was introduced in 1995 and was designed by the Driving Standards Agency. The scheme was introduced as statistics show that new drivers are more likely to have an accident in the first two years of passing their test than at any other time in their driving career.

The scheme aims to increase new drivers confidence in a range of conditions they may not have experienced while learning to drive.

Pass Plus allows you to book a course of 6 specially designed training sessions. These cover driving:
  • In town
  • Out of town
  • In all weathers
  • At night
  • On dual carriageways
  • On motorways
Some of the aspects may be covered in theory only. However, this is only done when a practical training session is not possible.

There is no exam at the end of the Pass Plus course. But after an instructor is satisfied in your competence you are awarded a certificate.

Many choose to take part in pass plus as many insurance companies offer cheaper car insurance to drivers to have taken part in the scheme.

The scheme takes a minimum of six hours to complete.

Young Lady Driver gives a discount to new drivers who have a Pass Plus Certificate.
What is a "Security Code"?
A SECURITY CODE is a device used by reputable websites to protect you and themselves from spammers and other unwanted interference.

The basic idea is that only human beings can copy and enter the security code because the image is not readable by automated website visitors (commonly known as "robots" or "spiders").

If you have to enter a security code from an image you can be more confident that the website your visiting is trying to protect you - although there is never any guarantee that disreputable programmers may find a way to get past the security in due course!.
